QUILT CARE

BASIC INFO: All A Stitch in Design quilts are created with 100% cotton fabric and thread, unless otherwise specified or requested. Cottons are easily deteriorated by acids and continuous contact with cardboard or unfinished wood. A Stitch in Design is not responsible for issues that may arise from improper storage after a quilt is received by a customer.

CLEANING: A Stitch in Design’s quilts are machine washable! Use a gentle laundry detergent (WITHOUT bleach!) or a quilt specific detergent (easily picked up at a quilt shop or Joann’s).  Wash infrequently with cold water on the gentle cycle. Do not ring or twist and line dry or dry in a flat area with the lining side out (to protect it from the sun). Air your quilts on an overcast, yet dry and breezy day, or using the gentle cycle of a dryer without heat. Quilts can also be vacuumed to clean off dust using a nylon net over the head of a hand vacuum or regular hose attachment. Dry cleaning is not recommended!

STORING: Quilts are meant to be used! When not in use, store quilts in a cool, dry place. Cotton sheets between the quilt layers or quilts folded inside pillow cases can prevent dye transfer and will help preserve the life of your quilt. You may also roll cotton quilts with acid free tissue paper. Plastic bags are not recommended because they will retain moisture and could cause mildew growth. Sunlight and fluorescent lamps can cause dyes to fade and fibers to become brittle. Quilts should be rotated to avoid this damage. High temperatures, humidity, and poor ventilation can cause mold and mildew growth. Store your quilts in a cool, dry place.
